Fr. John A. Perricone

Fr. John A. Perricone, Ph.D. is a Roman Catholic priest and adjunct professor of philosophy at Iona University in New Rochelle, New York. A native of Jersey City, New Jersey, he earned his undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University and a master’s in biblical studies from Immaculate Conception Seminary in Mahwah, New Jersey. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1976 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. He later received a second master’s degree in dogmatic theology from St. John’s University in 1981, and was awarded a Ph.D. in medieval philosophy from Fordham University.

In addition to his work at Iona University, Fr. Perricone has taught at St. Francis College (Brooklyn), La Salle University (Philadelphia), Dominican College (Orangeburg), and St. John’s University (Queens).

In 1989, he founded ChristiFideles, a New York City-based apostolate dedicated to the spiritual and doctrinal formation of Catholics. In 1996, under his direction, ChristiFideles organized a landmark Solemn Pontifical High Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral—the first celebration of the traditional Latin Mass by a Curial cardinal in a major American archdiocese in over 25 years. From 1996 to 2008, he served as editor and publisher of Excelsis, a bi-monthly journal of theology, philosophy, and Catholic commentary rooted in the teachings of the Church and the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas.

In 2002, Fr. Perricone co-founded The Montfort Academy in Mount Vernon, New York—a private Catholic high school grounded in a classical curriculum with the Catholic faith at its center.

His scholarly and popular writings have appeared in St. John’s Law Review, Crisis Magazine, Latin Mass Magazine, New Oxford Review, and The Journal of Catholic Legal Studies. He has lectured at institutions including Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, NYU, Georgetown, Boston College, Cambridge, and Loyola Marymount. His media appearances include EWTN, WNBC, WOR Radio, and several Catholic podcasts.

Fr. Perricone currently offers the Traditional Latin Mass every Sunday at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Jersey City, New Jersey.
